All new entrants to apprenticeships are required to complete initial assessments in English, Maths and Digital Literacy. We complete these via the online Wales Essential Skills Toolkit.

Are these tests and can I fail them?

No! These are initial assessments. There is no pass/fail mark. The results allow us to give you the correct level of support during your apprenticeship.

Yes. You do. The initial assessments are a mandatory Welsh Government requirement for all post-16 learning programmes, regardless of prior achievement.

I have Maths, English and ICT qualifications. Do I still need to do these assessments?

I’ve done these before at a previous provider. Do I need to sit them again?

Ask your previous provider/college for the WEST login details they supplied you with, and we can transfer the results across. You will have to sit the screeners just to ensure your levels are still accurate, but these only take ten minutes.
